Valentine’s Day on a Budget – 10 Ways to Enjoy a Romantic Evening at Home

There’s no need to go out to a crowed restaurant and spend lots of money to have a romantic Valentine’s Day. Here are 10 ways to enjoy the holiday with your sweetheart right in your own home.

  1. Cook Together. Turn slaving over dinner into an enjoyable together time. Try a new recipe or stick to a favorite. Work together to make a delicious meal and you’ll enjoy it event more. Take your time making your meal and enjoy a nice glass of wine along the way.

  2. Light the Night. Candle light gives any room a softer, more romantic feel. Go for unscented candles so you don’t have a strong scent that would interfere with your dinner. Candles are inexpensive so light as many as you like. Just keep them away from flammable draperies and furniture, and make sure they’re completely out before you hit the hay.

  3. Take Time to Relax. Give each other the gift of relaxation by taking turns giving each other massages. Even a quick back rub can set the mood for a relaxing and enjoyable evening.

  4. You Don’t Need Roses. But, flowers do make it a little more special. Even a quick bouquet from the grocery store will make your table feel special.

  5. Movie Time. Instead of heading to the theater, grab a romantic movie to enjoy in your own home. (Couples Retreat and The Time Travelers Wife  come out just in time for Valentine’s Day)

  6. Buy a Nice Bottle. Of wine that is. Don’t be afraid to splurge on your favorite. Remember, if you were drinking it at a restaurant, it might cost as much as four times what you paid at the store.

  7. Sweets for Your Sweet. Instead of grabbing that standard box of chocolates, indulge in some special sweets by making your own chocolate covered strawberries

  8. Gifts from the Heart.  Set a limit on gifts and get a little creative. Maybe even just write each other a special card. Chances are, you’ll cherish it a lot longer than the gigantic box of chocolates (and the 5 lbs. you gained after eating those chocolates.)

  9. What About the Kids? If you’ve got little ones, don’t be afraid to include them in some of the festivities. They’ll love helping you make dinner and exchanging hand made Valentines. Or, hire a babysitter to keep them occupied so you can have some quiet time.

  10. Enjoy a Light Show. Bundle up after dinner and take some wine or hot cocoa outside with your and star gaze with your sweetheart.
