The Fresh New Way to Have a Garden Party

With those May flowers in full bloom, now is the perfect time to have a little garden party. But, get that idea of tea and brunch out of your head and think garden cocktail party. The beautiful outdoors makes a great backdrop for a festive gathering. Here are some ideas to get you started.

Light it up. It is a garden party so you’ll still want to see the garden when the sun goes down. Strategically place some spot lights to feature your favorite flowers. Light up your tables with candles. Floating candles in the shapes of flowers will add some extra blooms to your party. String up some white Christmas lights to make your garden party sparkle.

Eat Up. Try to include garden elements in every aspect of your party, even the food. Garnish your plates with blooms and extend your garden theme to your menu. Click here for a list of edible flowers.

Drink it down. Search for drink recipes that have at least one ingredient from your garden. (Try Drinkmixer.com) Mint is one common drink ingredient that you can grow. But there are others, like Rosemary Fruit Punch. You can also rename drinks or find drinks with flowers in their name for an added touch, garnish your drink with edible flowers.

Garden Music. No string quartets here. If you want to go the extra mile with the theme, make a playlist of music that mentions a flower or flowers in general at some point in the song. No matter what your music tastes are, with a little digging, you can find a garden playlist to entertain your guests all night long. See how many of your guests catch on.

Don’t forget the favors. Send your guests home with something to plant in their garden. It could be anything you like – herbs, flowers, veggies. Just be sure to include some planting and care instructions.

Surprise your friends this spring and summer with a fresh new take on the garden party.
